Agricultural Buildings and Barns
Agricultural buildings are usually located on farms and used for various purposes. In North America, a barn refers to structures that house livestock, including cattle and horses, as well as equipment and fodder, and often grain. Each style of agricultural build has its own advantages.
The pole barn is the most simple of all shed designs. It is essentially where posts or poles are fixed into the ground, secured together at the top, which then support a roof. They are typically used on farms to shelter feed or equipment, but can be of any size, and are therefore great for backyards too.
Solutions for animal shelters can be open or closed. A shelter exposes that animal to the open air and the animal can come and go as it pleases. A shelter is also a less expensive option than a barn. Although the fresh air in the open shelter has its advantages it also exposes the animal to the elements. A full barn provides full shelter for the animal and gives you the ability to contain the animal if needed.
Hay stored outside must be covered to avoid the damage due to rain. Haybarns are a great option for doing that.
From haybarns to animal shelters, GEM Quality Homes can assist you with all your agricultural buildings needs and help you protect your livestock, equipment and hay. Browse through some of our work to see pole sheds, horse shelters and hay barns constructed by GEM Quality Homes.
Chase Haybarn Project
Our biggest barn to date and she is a beauty! With dual side extension bays, this barn has plenty of room for all of the hay needed and some equipment. Using our same philosophy of constructing the roof on the ground, this barn was a heavy lift. The addition of 2×6 strapping to the perimeter will assist with keeping this barn around for years to come. Loved working on this big guy out in Chase, BC!
Custom built machine shop. Open bays for easy storage of all machinery. Build up of truss systems on the ground makes for a quick and safe day of roof work.
